Sculpture is the manufacture of a three-dimensional object that expresses in some way the ideas or emotions of the person creating it. The range of materials and technology used in sculpture is vast and constantly changing to reflect the world we live in and in which we create art.

The sculpture course at WWSOTA is unique in that you will cover as many traditional processes as possible within the first year. You will work in steel fabrication, plaster, mould-making, bronze casting, stone carving and wood, first year students now have the opportunity to run a cupolette and produce cast iron sculpture, as far as we know the only college in Britain to offer this facility.

Two students have the opportunity to take a year out to work at the AB Fine Art casting foundry London, this year they have been working with Mark Quinn on his Kate Moss sculptures as well as with the Chapman Brothers and Anish Kaphoor.

Interested students now have the chance to spend half their second year on a student exchange programme with Kansas State University, America.

You will be encouraged in the second and third years, via a tutorial programme, to develop your own vision and produce a body of work leading to a final year show. This work can be in traditional or non-traditional materials and innovation and experimentation are strongly encouraged. As well as having specialist workshops to support the course, the Faculty is situated close to areas of spectacular coastline and mountains, which offer ample opportunities to work in the environment.

All staff are enthusiastic, practicing artists with a diverse range of skills.
