Photography is defined as 'painting with light' and encompasses a range of activities and subjects. These can include portraiture, landscape, fashion and lifestyle, sport, documentary/photo-journalism, advertising, editorial, fine art and contemporary imaging.
The course will encourage you to be creative and develop your visual and technical skills in photography based on your own interests. It will also introduce you to the diversity of photographic practice and creative techniques (silver-based and digital) used for commercial and personal practice. Throughout the course you will develop a personal strategy for earning a living through contemporary photographic practice. You will be encouraged to produce a diverse range of images in the early part of the course, and submit entries for bursaries and awards. There is an annual 'live' competition sponsored by Ty Nant Spring Water resulting in an exhibition during the 2nd year. The course culminates in the 3rd year with a personally negotiated major project, which allows you to follow your specialist interest. Students have worked in Australia, at the Cannes Film Festival, International sporting events at the Millennium Stadium and on a James Bond film set in order to create a dynamic portfolio and end of year show.
