The Gallery is located within the Faculty of Art, Design and Performance at West Wales School of the Arts, Coleg Sir Gar, Carmarthen. The gallery offers an exciting and diverse exhibition programme, which aims to reflect local and national contemporary art practice. The gallery provides a venue within West Wales for both established and emerging artists to exhibit a range of new media and provides an opportunity for both students and the wider community to access and participate in contemporary art practice. The West Wales School of the Arts Gallery (Henry Thomas Gallery) was re-launched in September 2008 and the programme, curated by Marilyn Allen and Helen Lindsay aims to reflect contemporary interests and trends from a range of national and international creative visual genres. The programme for 2008/2009 opened with an exhibition of contemporary motion graphics entitled Wanderer by the Manchester based visual artist James Snazell and composer Nina Whiteman, followed by a retrospective exhibition by the contemporary welsh collaboration Ointment. Subsequent exhibitions have included Miranda Whall’s films Marine Dialogues, Maia Conran’s Welsh Space Programme and Richard Robinson and Robert Bermingham’s site specific piece, You Are Here, that invited the viewer to contemplate their ‘place’ in the world.
An accompanying West Wales School of the Arts Gallery publication written by Marilyn Allen and Helen Lindsay is available on request. All exhibitions are open to the public, Wednesday to Friday 10am – 5pm. Please contact Susan Hayward on 01554 748203 for any further information. |
