Welcome to the West Wales School of the Arts.

We are a small and friendly institution with a real ‘Art School’ atmosphere so often lacking in current higher education and with a long tradition which can be traced back to the Dyfed College of Art and to the first Art School in Carmarthen which was founded in 1854.

We believe in teaching and supporting our students, allowing them to make the most of their creativity and the opportunities available to them in college and their chosen careers.

Ours is a balanced approach of vocational teaching, relevant theory and ‘live’ experience of participating in exciting national events, competitions and exhibitions.

About our Art Degrees in Carmarthen

Our philosophy is to provide traditional as well as contemporary methods of working and we have a unique, wide range of facilities and workshops for painting, life drawing, ceramics, glass, wood and stone working, iron and bronze casting, graphic design, photography, fashion and textiles. We also have our own gallery.

There is a range of technicians to help our students get the most out of our facilities and their own practical work, and learning support assistants to help them in their studies if necessary.

All applicants to the West Wales School of the Arts are offered a personal interview with either the relevant course leader or a member of the teaching team and it is our intention to ensure that all potential students are given the best advice and placed on the most appropriate courses for them.
